Kildalkey school were the recipients of a surprise treat last Monday when the school were given no homework by Mr. Fox on the back of the fabulous victory that the girls achieved last Saturday. The girls then visited every classroom with the cup and even filled it with sweets to share with others!! Many thanks also to the school for the fabulous new sign currently in front of the school!!

Take a look in The Meath Chronicle this week too for a great report on the match!
Champions!!

Congratulations to the Kildalkey girls on a fabulous victory in today's final. In doing so the girls became the first team, boys or girls, from Kildalkey to win a Cumann na mBunscol football title. Huge credit is due to the girls and their parents and supporters.
The girls went into the match having scraped into the semi final on the back of a last minute goal against Oldcastle. Having dispatched of Lismullen in the semi final, they then faced last year's champions and the current Mini 7s holders in Gaelscoil Éanna.
The game began at a frantic pace. Kildalkey tore out of the blocks and played some wonderful football in that first half. Debbie was the first to inflict damage on Gaelscoil Éanna, firing to the roof of the net. Gaelscoil Éanna battled back to leave the match at 1-2 to 0-2 after ten minutes. However, that was to be their last score of the half as Kildalkey showed great tenacity and hunger to forge out an unassailable lead by half time. With Holly R scoring some fabulous points and Debbie and Lauren continuously running at the Gaelscoil defence, they simply carved open the Gaelscoil defence time and again. Jessica also put in some trojan work in this half, winning ball after ball in the middle of the field. When Lauren scored a fabulous goal, there was clear daylight between the sides. They led at half time at 2-6 to 0-2.
If the first half belonged to the attack, the second belonged to the defence. Facing into a breeze favouring Gaelscoil, Kildalkey came under considerable pressure from a rejuvenated Gaelscoil. When they scored a goal from a free a few minutes into the second half, we looked set for a cracking finish. However, Andrea, Holly D, Aoife and Amy ensured that there was to be no comeback with some typically resolute and determined defending. They were in no small way aided by Danielle, who along with some fabulous saves, used her kickouts to such effect that Kildalkey won every one of their kickouts in the second half. Eventually, Kildalkey were able to break upfield and once they did, they made it count. Clinical goals from Debbie and Kayla effectively killed the game as a contest. Subs came in to replace tiring legs and show that it wasn't just the first 11 who could play football. Rachelle, Clodagh, Molly, Katie and Sarah all came on to contribute something to the game. Indeed, one of the points of the day came from Sarah!
The referee eventually blew the final whistle and the cup was heading to Kildalkey for the first time on a scoreline of 5-8 to 2-4. The two captains, Rachel and Debbie then made two great speeches, thanking Gaelscoil Éanna for the game and making reference to the fact that they were receiving the Pat Sheridan cup, which had been named after the former Lismullen principal.
Celebration were had afterwards in Supermacs, with thanks to the Parents' Association for organising the meals! On what was a great day for Kildalkey, great credit must go to the girls on what is a huge achievement. They were out every lunch time practicising for the final, and their weekends too. Training was always attended without any excuses. In short, their commitment ensured their deserved glory. Thanks also to the parents who drove them to league matches, challenge matches and were incredibly supportive throughout the year. The support at Páirc Tailteann was a sizeable and vocal one, giving great encouragement to the team throughout. Finally, huge credit must go to Miss Pykett who was at every match and training session and oversaw the team's progress throughout the year, with help from other teachers.

Congratulations to the Division Two Champions of 2013!!.
