Almshouses!
In History this month, 4th Class have been focusing on 'Local Studies' and 'My Locality Through the Ages'. As part of our learning, we explored the history of Kildalkey and discovered some fascinating facts about Almshouses.

We discovered that Almshouses were special buildings where people who had fallen on hard times could live. They were set up by generous members of the community to provide shelter and support for those in need. We wrote our own descriptions explaining what Almshouses were and how they showed people’s kindness and care for others.
We were amazed to find out that the Almshouse in Kildalkey is still standing today and is now commonly known as St.Dympna's Hall. Even though it no longer serves the same purpose, it remains an important part of our community and a reminder of how people helped one another in the past.
We really enjoyed learning about this piece of local history and seeing how the past still connects to the present in our village.
